What is sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention?
  • Trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, gonorrhea, and chlamydial infections are the most common STIs that occur

  • STI prevention is a combination of antibiotics that was given to you at the hospital during your treatment 

  • It is important to finish your prescription completely  if you were given one by ER doctor

  • You will be re-tested for STIs on your follow up visit #1

  • The antibiotic medications that you were given does not treat viruses like HIV, hepatitis

What are symptoms of STIs?
  • Swelling or redness near penis or vagina

  • Painful urination

  • Aches, pains, fever, chills, rashes

  • Discharge or drainage fro the penis or vagina (may or may not be unpleasant smelling)

  • Bumps or sores on mouth, anus, penis or vagina
