What is human papilloma virus (HPV)?
  • A virus that causes warts. There are several different strains of HPV and some will cause warts to appear on a person's genitals, anus, and mouth

  • HPV can spread person to person, and through sexual contact

  • The warts caused by HPV can be removed by a doctor but the virus will stay in your body. You can still pass on the virus to others

  • The HPV virus can increase the change of cervical cancer for women

  • Prevention is key to prevent HPV by getting the HPV immunization

  • If you are younger than 15 years old the HPV vaccine is 2 injections. The second is given 6 months after the first.
     

  • If you are older than 15 the HPV vaccine is 3 injections. The second dose is given 1-2 months after the first, then the third is given 6 months after the first dose.
